The city of Angkor

Angkor is the earliest capital of the Khmer Empire where amazing monumental structures that dot the area telling a tale of an earliest empire and increased during the 9th century to the 15th century A.D. before falling in to the hands of assaulting armies from Thailand. Basically, the word Angkor is derived from the Sanskrit word for “City” which is known as “Nagara”. Angkor covers an area of about 3000 km at the time of the medieval ages and locates as the largest pre-industrialized city complex which equivalent the size of current day Los Angeles. Through this Angkor easily thrashes its closest competitor in terms of land area the Mayan city of Tikal.

The City of Angkor is situated in the jungle which is outside the town of Siem Reap, Cambodia. Once upon the time, this city was one of the most inspiring cities in southern Asia and it’s still nice-looking now days. The shells of this city are enormous, appealing, in spaces and full of colorful overgrown. In fact, you can very easily spend a few days wandering throughout Angkor but you cannot see it all. Here in Angkor, you can find Elephant images all over which were an important part of life for the ancient Khmer.

Angkor has the one of the World’s biggest religious complexes which consist of the famous Angkor Wat and the huge faces of Bayon. Angkor Wat temples are dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu and means Angkor- the city, Wat – pagoda. Here the major tower at the essential temple signifies Mount Meru that held to be the midpoint of the universe by Hindus and Buddhists equally. These Bayon temples are a three storied temples that stand at a height of 43 m. moreover, these temples have more than 200 giant faces and the Frescos line the wall tells the stories of naval battles and daily life of the Khmers.

Thus, the city of Angkor is situated 7 km south of the modern town of Siem Reap. You can easily find Siem Reap accommodation which is available at many luxury hotels in Siem Reap. This is a very famous place for visitors who choose to stay a few days to survey the place, since in the city of Angkor there are many ruined temples to visit and roam.
